Ohai two_kittehs. Again, sorry to hear about your hubby's dad's passing. To answer your question: sometimes a heart attack leaves the heart muscle weakened in such a way that the left ventricle (main pumping chamber that takes blood from the lungs and sends it out to the body) isn't able to pump the blood out as fast as usual, and doesn't relax between beats as well as usual, so that the blood coming through the lungs has to sit in the lungs' blood vessels (in effect) a bit longer than usual. This makes the lungs heavier and makes breathing harder. Some watery fluid also may leak out of the lungs' vessels into some of the air spaces, or between them; this is called pulmonary edema. People get this confused with "fluid around the heart" (when fluid accumulates in the sac immediately surrounding the heart) or "fluid around the lungs" (when fluid is between the lungs and the ribs, where it could be drained out with a needle). The fluid inside the lungs isn't accessible to be drained, but sometimes medications can help the person get rid of excess fluid through the urinary tract. These medications (and others) can help some, but if the LV damage is too severe, survival may become impossible. Of course, I don't know whether that is what happened in this case, but it is a fairly frequent problem after a severe heart attack. =O.O= BOOK CLUB BULLETIN =O.O= As you’ve probably noticed, there have been some important developments. - 1 - There’s now a special profile for the book club: http://app.cheezburger.com/JeffCatsBookClub. It’s managed by Chris10a, SylviaG and myself. Starting now, please send your submissions to that profile. If you’re not friends with the profile yet, just send a friend request! - 2 - The profile offers some major advantages: a) Categories which work like shelves in a library. You’ll find them in the “Favorites” of the profile. b) Sharing the library work. There are now 600 (!!!) submissions and counting, and that’s simply too much for any single cat to handle. Thanks to Chris and Sylvia for their invaluable halp! c) Managing submissions and friend requests becomes a lot easier when kept separate from my purrsonal profile. - 3 - In case you haven’t seen your purrsonal membership card yet, you’ll find it here: http://thebookclubmembers.cheezburger.com/. The cards are also collected in the category “J.C.B.C. General Assembly” of the new profile. RedRobin’s card (no. 50) is the last one of that sort, though. From now on, cards for new members will be issued by the book club profile. - 4 - The cheezburger site for the book club http://thebookclub.cheezburger.com/ is on hold for now. Like I said, impossible to manage on my own. It will be continued in some form or other, and there will be additional sites managed by the new profile. You’ll be informed about developments. - 5 - I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: The creativity and the humor of the submissions are just incredible! There are 35 official members and close to 200 submissions so far… Your enthusiasm and all the wonderful literary lols are just overwhelming - in the best sense of the word. I didn’t expect anything like this when I decided to go public with the book club. Please understand that I can’t tell every single purrson just how much I love their submissions. There are so many, and they’re all so great and so inspired and so funny… YOU ROCK!!! +++ 2) Membership cards: I’ve finished most of the membership cards today. I’m glad to hear that everyone seems to like theirs so far :-) You can see ALL the members and their cards here >>> http://thebookclubMEMBERS.cheezburger.com/ <<< If you haven’t gotten your purrsonal card yet, you’ll probably find it there. I don’t do anything BUT the book club at the moment. I don’t even check the frontpages anymore, cause it’s just so frustrating. Oh, I'm so very sorry to hear that. {{{{{two_kittehs}}}}} {{{{{two_kittehs hubcat}}}}} {{{{{hubcat's dad}}}}} What a terrible thing to go through. Please, get some rest and urge your hubcat to do so. I have been where you are, with my own parents and with my hubcat's parents. Whatever the outcome, you need to keep your strength up.

The book club always embraces new members with a big happy :-) 2 very important things right now. 1) It's not a real "rule" but it would be great if u submitted one "literary lol" for starters. But no worries, the club also admits any member who is happy to just "browse the shelves" :-) 2) U absolutely NEED an official membership card! Just tell me ur favorite color and if u'd prefur a specific image or texture for ur card.
